The Refuge HQ and Visitor Center are closed due to the federal government shutdown. All scheduled events are postponed until the government re-opens. Refuge roads, trails, lands and outdoor restrooms remain open to the public at this time.

The Goode Day Use Area is closed Sunday, 10/25. Deer hunting at the refuge will take place despite the shutdown on the following days: Nov 07-09, Nov 21–23, Dec 05–07

Meyers Branch, Harris Creek and Big Mineral Units will be affected by the deer hunts.

Second Saturday: Wildlife Watching and Photography at Bosque del Apache NWR

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, in central New Mexico, is a very-popular spot for birders and bird photographers in the winter, mainly because of the large numbers of Sandhill Cranes and white geese. But, there is a lot of wildlife to be found in the surrounding area too, both in the winter and summer. In the last four summers, I have spent a total of about three months in this area and taken many thousands of wildlife photos. In this talk, I will discuss some of the wildlife that can be seen at the Refuge and the surrounding area, especially near the Magdalena Mountains.

Events and activities hosted by the Friends of Hagerman are funded by donations and powered solely by volunteers.  There are no fees for admission to the refuge or parking. The refuge is open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year and you may drive on any road unless gated.
