The Refuge HQ and Visitor Center are closed due to the federal government shutdown. All scheduled events are postponed until the government re-opens. Refuge roads, trails, lands and outdoor restrooms remain open to the public at this time.

The Goode Day Use Area is closed Sunday, 10/25. Deer hunting at the refuge will take place despite the shutdown on the following days: Nov 07-09, Nov 21–23, Dec 05–07

Meyers Branch, Harris Creek and Big Mineral Units will be affected by the deer hunts.

The Butterfly Garden is beautiful and open sunrise to sunset daily, and the Auto Tour is a great outing!

Become a Junior Ranger Today!

Complete a scavenger hunt, a leaf rubbing and identify a few common birds to become a Junior Ranger.  At the end of the journey report back to the Visitor Center where you will be guided through the pledge (above) and receive your merit of completion.

As a Junior Ranger at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge,

I pledge to protect outdoor creatures small, big and huge.

Advanced Junior Ranger

Take an expedition throughout Hagerman NWR and identify the habitats that are in this refuge, as well as the ecological systems that are at work. Look for rare species and work to develop some conservation strategies to help our local habitats. At the end of the journey report back to the Visitor Center where you will be guided through the pledge (above) and receive your merit of completion.

Events and activities hosted by the Friends of Hagerman are funded by donations and powered solely by volunteers.  There are no fees for admission to the refuge or parking. The refuge is open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year and you may drive on any road unless gated.
